Signage – NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital

The first moments after birth are a crucial time. Mother and child can form powerful hormonal bonds that improve infant health and the ease of breastfeeding. The process starts with extended skin-to-skin contact, but typical hospital procedures like weighing and washing babies immediately after delivery interrupt this golden hour.

The Breastfeeding Task Force at New York Presbyterian’s Brooklyn Methodist Hospital is pushing for greater observance of the Golden Hour in their Labor and Delivery unit. I had the pleasure of working with Methodist’s lactation counselors on door signs which aim to help normalize Golden Hour observance. Methodist serves a diverse population, so we opted for inclusive signs with somewhat androgynous features and different hair types. Methodist supplied the copy text.
