This might be my favorite tape sync so far. It’s hard to compete with an expert on cannibalism who’s friends with Alice Cooper.
I headed out to Hamptons Bay to record Bill Schutt for Gastropod, in an interview about his latest book: Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History. Schutt is a former professor and biology researcher for the Smithsonian, as a well as a fiction and nonfiction author. After finishing his first book, on blood-feeding animals, Schutt was contacted by Alice Cooper, for the rockstar’s podcast. There’s a large, signed Cooper poster on the wall of his study. Talk about a juicy career…
I was worried going in that I’d be queasy, but this glowing New York Times review of Cannibalism gives a pretty good idea of how interesting and entertaining the interview ended up being. Did you know medicinal cannibalism was commonplace in Europe up until the Enlightenment?
